Conversion Tables

Conversion tables based solely on surface temperature seem to be routinely used by meteorological observers to estimate snow measurements (when the water equivalent has been correctly measured but snow has been blown around by the wind), or water equivalent measurements (from the snow depth when snow did not enter the collector). The conversion table used by the NWS is shown below.

Surface temperature

Snow/water ratio

28-34 oF 10:1

20-27 oF 15:1

15-19 oF 20:1

10-14 oF 30:1

0-9 oF F 40:1

-20 to -1 oF 50:1

-40 to -21 oF 100:1

On peu aussi utilise cette formule.

1) If MAXTMP is greater than 271.16K, then the liquid equivalent ratio (RATIO) is 12.0 + 2.0*(271.16-MAXTMP)

2) If MAXTMP is less than 271.16K, then the liquid equivalent ratio (RATIO) is 12.0 + (271.16-MAXTMP)

E.g: Demain montreal -6 egal 267. Alors il faute prendre le deuxieme.

12+(271-267) =16:1

Ces il fasais -1 egal 272. on prendrais numero un.

12+2X(271-272), 12+-2= 10:1

Finalement la dernier facon de calculer

Voici une exemple

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c326/stockd3vil/meteogram.jpg

Alors le 42 et 48 heure ratio 12:1= 9mm x 1.2= 10.8 cm

la 54h ratio 15:1 = 16mm x 1.5 = 19.2cm

60 et 66h 20:1 = 8mm X 2 = 16cm

Total 46 cm
