Discussion July 2017 Climate Forecast Discussion for Aug-Oct through Nov-JanThe SST forecast shows warmish but neutral ENSO conditions for Aug-Oct, remaining approximately steady through the fourth forecast season of Nov-Jan. The subtropical North Pacific SST is predicted to be well above average during all four forecast seasons. A somewhat positive Indian Ocean Dipole is predicted to continue throughout the four forecast seasons, weakening slightly by the fourth period. The tropical Atlantic maintains slightly above average SST during all four seasons. Slightly enhanced probabilities for below-normal precipitation are predicted in parts of northern and eastern South America during Aug-Oct and Sep-Nov, shifting to just northern South America for Oct-Dec and Nov-Jan. An enhanced likelihood for below-normal is predicted for parts of Australia from Aug-Oct to Oct-Dec, with most widespread coverage during Sep-Nov. A below normal tendency is also predicted for southern and western Indonesia from Aug-Oct to Oct-Dec, and for northern central Africa for Sep-Nov and Oct-Dec. The snow fell during last night, while the temperatures were very cool. The mercury hit 1 degree Celsius on Wednesday morning at Schefferville and the slush has been seen by many citizens. According to Francois Desy, who lives in the community with almost 200 people, the snow was visible a little more in altitude, on the small mountains near the city. Some white spots were visible on the mountains at low altitude. According to Mr. Desy, it would not have been a lot of accumulation on the ground, if this is only on the mountains a little more altitude. Since then, the rain that fell today melted the little snow that has fallen. This is an exceptional situation, but that does not surprise Francis Desy. “This is not normal to see this kind of weather in the month of July, but on the other hand, it is the reality of our city located near the 55th parallel,” Says Mr. Desy.
